Burnout Doesn’t Look the Same for Everyone (and Neither Does the Fix)

Overwhelmed by Technology

2 Automations Every Entrepreneur Should Set Up

Every morning after my coffee, Rosie (my beagle) and I go for a walk. We go for that walk rain or shine.

It’s our time together—my time to wake up with fresh air and movement. Her time to sniff every inch of the ground on our path.

We do a night walk too. Every evening after dinner, we go again.

Even if I get wrapped up in something, she reminds me it’s time to go. She’ll stare at me until I get up and grab her leash. She’s my reminder—my built-in accountability system—to keep moving.

Because of her, I get an hour of walking every day. She would never let us skip it.

Rosie has taught me that consistency doesn’t come from motivation—it comes from structure. Some days I don’t feel like going, but Rosie Roo makes it happen anyway. It’s built into her day, her routine, and now it’s part of mine too.

Automations are similar that way. They’re not about control; they’re about creating accountability so things keep moving even when motivation isn’t there.

In my business, I’ve set up many automations. They’re designed to keep things flowing when I’m not there, but they don’t run my business without me. Like walking Rosie Roo, I still have to play my part—but they keep things on schedule.

Here are two automations every entrepreneur should have in place:

The Welcome Sequence

Your welcome sequence is one of the first interactions with your audience. It automatically greets new subscribers the moment they join your newsletter, download a freebie, or sign up for your updates.

Think of it as your digital introduction—it’s your chance to say:

“Hey there, I’m glad you’re here. Here’s who I am, what I do, and what you can expect from me.”
A good welcome sequence includes:

  • A warm thank-you and an introduction to you and your brand.
  • A short version of your story or your “why.”
  • What kind of content you’ll send and how often.
  • A few of your best resources or posts to get them started.

You only have to write it once—but it builds relationships every day.

Why it matters:

Your welcome sequence builds relationship consistency. It allows you to stay present with your audience while you’re focusing on other things. Like Rosie Roo, it keeps the connection steady without you having to think about it.

It also sets the tone for your entire brand experience. A thoughtful welcome series helps new subscribers instantly feel like they belong.

Lead Capture + Tagging

This one is about understanding your audience on a deeper level.

When someone signs up for one of your freebies, they give you their name and email—but that’s just the beginning. With automation, you can tag them based on what they downloaded or what they’re interested in.

For example:

Someone who downloads your “Healthy Substitutions Guide” might get tagged as nutrition focused.

Someone who downloads your “5 Tips to Better Sleep” might get tagged as sleep focused.

Those tags help you organize your list and speak directly to each group’s needs later on.

Why it matters:

Tagging turns a generic email list into a powerful segmentation system. It helps you send the right message to the right person at the right time.

When you launch something new, you’ll know exactly which group it’s for—and you won’t have to email your entire list with something irrelevant.

It’s like labeling files in your business so you never lose track of who’s who or what they care about.

Plus, it keeps your systems clean. You’ll thank yourself later when your audience grows and you can see at a glance where your people are most engaged.

The Takeaway

The structure—not the spontaneity—is what builds freedom.

Automation is the business version of my Roo; it keeps things flowing so you can explore, create, and grow without the chaos of repetitive tasks weighing you down.

Start small. Build one automation around your lead magnet—something that not only nurtures relationships but does it in a way that’s specific to what they are most interested. Focus on the tag you’re using and why you’re using it.

There are hundreds of email platforms that can help you build these automations.

If you’re not sure which one makes sense for YOU, take my Email Platform Quiz – it’ll help you find one that works for YOU and not just your business goals.
